Two Pairs, Same Defect, No Meaningful Warranty

"I really wanted to like these boots. I bought the Salomon Quest 4D GTX Forces 2 from U. S. Elite in October 2023 because they were marketed as a premium, hard-use boot. They were comfortable and supportive when new, but the quality has been extremely disappointing. After several months, the left boot developed a loud squeak under the ball of my foot every time I walked. It was not caused by the removable insole, and the noise only occurred under body weight, which suggested something inside the sole or chassis was shifting. I contacted Salomon directly and was told that the warranty had to be handled through the dealer. U. S. Elite replaced the boots in June 2024, and I appreciate that they processed the original claim. However, I was also clearly told that the replacement pair would not be eligible for any further warranty claims. That is one of the most frustrating parts of this experience. It was not simply that the replacement failed to receive a fresh two-year warranty. As I understood what I was told, the replacement pair had no further warranty recourse at all, even during the time that remained within the original two-year warranty period from my October 2023 purchase. Unfortunately, the replacement pair developed the exact same problem after about the same amount of use. Same boot, same side, same location, and the same loud squeak. At that point, I gave up, stopped wearing them, and put them in the back of the closet. Since I had already been told that no further claim would be considered on the replacement pair, I saw little point in contacting U. S. Elite again. I recently came across the boots while cleaning out my closet and decided to contact Salomon before throwing away an otherwise lightly used and expensive pair of boots. I explained the full history, acknowledged that the original purchase was now outside the two-year warranty period, and asked whether they would consider any goodwill assistance. Salomon declined. They would not offer an inspection, repair guidance, discount, credit, or any other accommodation because the original purchase date was outside the warranty period. Two consecutive pairs developing the same problem in the same location after a similar amount of use is not simply bad luck. It strongly suggests a quality or design problem. For a boot at this price point, particularly one marketed for demanding and professional use, this level of durability is unacceptable. U. S. Elite did process the first replacement, so my primary criticism is directed at the quality of the Salomon boot and a warranty arrangement that left me with a second defective pair and no practical recourse. Replacing a defective product should not mean the customer loses warranty protection on the replacement, especially while the original warranty period is still running. I would not purchase this model again, and based on both the repeated failure and Salomon’s response, I would be very hesitant to purchase another Salomon boot."

Technically perfect boot

"This boot is supremely comfortable while being extremely uncomfortable and tough at the same time. Light weight and well balanced for top performance. They support the entire foot evenly allowing full use of the entire foot for balance and heal to toe walking. Providing strong ankle support allowing for heavy loads to be carried. Overall one of the best boots I have ever used."
