End of Federal Fiscal Year Spending: Part One

Social Media

September is fast approaching, so for U.S. Federal Government spending, it’s coming down to “use it or lose it” regarding the budget, despite efforts by many to stop the practice.  There are two important components to this funding: if an organization does not use all of its allotted funding for the year, it will be viewed as not needing to be approved for as big a budget the following year.  Secondly, the funds will disappear come October 1. The “common budget” is $3,000, but it also depends on the unit, individual needs and other factors.

US Elite wants to make sure your money is put to good use, so we asked three members of our Team for their recommendations on what they would have spent the money on when they were serving.  In this three-part series, over a three week period, you’ll get a breakdown on which products we’d recommend, giving reasons as to why. We can also help combine personal and budgetary funds to make a purchase if necessary.  Here are U.S. Elite CEO Steve’s Keefer’s recommendations:

Steve earned his stripes in BCo 3rd Platoon 2nd Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment and appreciates the edge that high-quality gear offers in terms of performance, safety and comfort.  He’s thrilled that he can pay it forward being where he is now.

Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket ($239.00): This is a super versatile piece.  It can be a mid or outer layer, wearing it under gear or as part of a cold weather system.  It can be 'tactical' or low-visibility.

Benchmade Triage Knife ($182.79): One can never have too many knives!  An added bonus is it’s made in the USA. It’s a versatile product made with the best materials and with safety features like a seatbelt cutter and glass breaker.

Outdoor Research Ironsight Gloves ($45.00): Great gloves at a reasonable price.  They are quick-drying, highly breathable, with amazing tactility and grip.  These gloves also have slip-free grip pads on the palms and fingers.

Salomon Forces XA Mid GTX ($189.95) or Non - GTX ($169.95): The ideal jack-of-all trades assault boot They are super comfortable and require minimal break-in.  They have a wider toebox and reinforced instep, so this boot can handle tactical tasks like rappelling and fast roping.

Kuhl Airspeed Shirt: short sleeve ($75.00) or long sleeve ($85.00): A very comfortable shirt that’s good for variable weather and low-visibility.  It’s designed for UV-Ray protection, moisture wicking and drying quickly. It’s also ideal for anyone looking for a concealed-carry garment for daily use.
