The Combat Desert Jacket (CDJ) is a lightweight, wind resistant, lightly insulated, water repellent jacket for multi-season use in desert operations. It will provide protection against wind, blowing sand, light rain or snow and is compatible with the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform, fleece pullover and cold weather underwear. The CDJ is intended to provide Marines increased protection from the unique environmental nature of the desert. The CDJ provides moisture management through the use of soft shell fabrics, flexibility/mobility through strategically placed stretch zones, and anti-microbial protection through the use of X-Static.

The CDJ is designed as a high performance winter shell to be used where high performance apparel and equipment is needed most. W.L. Gore & Associates has engineered GORE Military Fabrics specifically for the CDJ. The different fabrics in each part of the jacket are customized so that the wearer receives the highest level of protection and comfort during changing desert environments. Working with its moisture- wicking lining, this highly breathable fabric reduces heat stress during the day and helps maintain a steady core body temperature at night. The GORE Military Fabrics used in the CDJ include a specialized concealment technology that increases protection against night-vision devices. GORE Military Fabrics are designed and rigorously tested to ensure that they are durably fit for their intended use.
